Advanced Job Search

1. How do I find a job using CareerTrade.NET? Do you search for jobs for me?

You can search for jobs from the CareerTrade.NET home page or in the 'What'/'Where' boxes at the top of any page.

To run a search, simply type keywords into the 'What' box describing the kind of job you want, and enter a city, province/province or zip/postal code in the 'Where' box. Then click the 'Search Job' button or hit the Enter key on your keyboard.

Take a look at our job search tips for more guidance.

After you've run a search, click on any job title to view the job details. This takes you out of CareerTrade.NET to the website listing the job.

2. How do I submit my resume and apply to jobs?

After you've run a search, click on a job title to view the original job posting. Application instructions should be available on the website where the job is posted, and may be different for each website.

You cannot enter your resume and apply to jobs directly on CareerTrade.NET unless those jobs are in the top corner labeled as "Sponsored Jobs". We are not involved with the actual hiring process for jobs in our search results, except internal postings for employment at CareerTrade.NET. Nor does CareerTrade.NET have any contact information for the companies in our search results except those jobs that are displayed under "Sponsored Jobs".

3. How do you rank the search results?

Jobs are ranked solely by relevance or date. We do however accept payments to include jobs in the search engine labeled under "Sponsored Jobs" to improve their ranking and visibility. Click here for more information.

4. How do I see only new jobs?

CareerTrade.NET is updated every minute so the search will show jobs by relevance of your search and then by the date posted. The first pages of the search are usually new job postings. The first listings are only the new job postings.

5. What countries can I search?

Currently we search for jobs posted in Canada, USA, Australia, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, Spain, and UK but we are working to bring you jobs searches in more countries continuously.

6. My search is not returning enough results. What can I do?

  • Check your spelling: Both the 'JOB TITLE' and 'WHERE' and make sure the postal code or province abbreviation is correct
  • Remove search terms: By default our search results contain jobs with ALL of the words in the 'JOB TITLE' box. If you want to find jobs with ANY of the words, use 'OR' between the search terms.
  • Increase your radius: You may need to look farther away to get the results you want.

7. My job search is returning too many jobs. What can I do?

  • Refine your search.
  • Add more terms to the 'JOB TITLE' box: include any words that you would like the job title or description to contain
  • Include a location: If you have not specified a location, add a city, province, or postal code to the 'WHERE' box.

8. When I search using my zip code, it also returns jobs from other locations. Why?

Jobs are returned within 25 miles of the location you specify by default, but you can change the radius of your search to get the results you want by typing the exact city or region name.

9. My search results are showing my city, but in the wrong province. What should I do?

Add the province to the 'WHERE' box and search again. If you don't enter a province, we show results from the biggest city with that name.

10. Can I save my job search?

Yes you can. You can save your job search and the best part is that you don't have to register and create an account with us. Our system will remember your IP address and display you the saved job where you will have the option to delete it as well. We are currently working on adding more features to the website and make it more user friendly.

11. What is RSS?

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a way to subscribe to a website and have new content delivered to you. In order to use RSS, you need an RSS reader. Internet Explorer 7, Firefox 2, and other web browsers have RSS readers built-in. There are also online RSS readers like Bloglines or Google Reader, and downloadable programs like NewsNetWire that you can use to view RSS feeds
